House of God: Mary, Jesus, and the Meaning of Christmas:
An Advent Poster and Devotional for Families of All Shapes and Sizes
Advent is the season of waiting for Jesus to arrive – and it’s also a time when Mary comes center stage. For thousands of years, Christians have called her many names: Theotokos (“Bearer of God” or “House of God”), Our Lady of Guadalupe, the First Disciple, and many more.
So this Advent season, as we prepare for Jesus to arrive, let’s get to know Mary a little bit better, filling out her ordinary, extraordinary, inspiring portrait – all the while learning how we, too, can make our homes (and our hearts!) “houses of God.”
“House of God” comes with both 1) a lovely poster filled with fun, engaging activity ideas for each week, and 2) a companion devotional booklet, complete with simple, candlelight weekly services, scriptural passages to read, meditations to discuss, practices to try (including the activities listed on the poster), and more.
This resource includes an introduction to Advent, and both the poster and the devotional include an editable window in which you can enter (on the poster) your family’s name, and (on the devotional) upcoming events from your family calendar.
The scriptural passages in this devotional correspond to Year B in the Revised Common Lectionary – but since their themes are universal, this devotional can be used fruitfully during any Advent season.
Files: This listing is for a downloadable PDF, printing instructions for the 11 x 14 poster and 8.5 x 11 devotional, and an e-reader version of the devotional.
