Thorn Bushes Have Roses!

Abraham Lincoln

Does this impending election have you fighting against a Grinch-like grimace despite the upcoming holiday cheer?  It’s kind of stressing us out too!  With the negativity and fear of the unknown looming high, not to mention all those "locker room" conversations and email "scandals" breaking in the news, it’s hard to remind ourselves how much beauty and goodness still exists in the world.

So, we're going to take this opportunity to remind you (and ourselves!) that despite the ugliness and brokenness of the world, if we choose to focus instead on glimpses of beauty, life itself will shine that much brighter.

As Abraham Lincoln said, “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”  In the interest of taking Abe’s advice to heart, we are sharing a few of the roses that are helping get us through this election season!

Tin Cup Design

Delightfully quirky and definitely comparable to roses in their beauty, the illustrations that Tin Cup Design’s Jordan creates are lighthearted and whimsical visuals that perpetually brighten our day.

Tom Curtis

If you haven’t yet giggled at Tom Curtis’ digital interpretations of his six year old son’s artwork, you’ll be charmed by this dad’s enduring appreciation for his son’s artistic creations.

Plus, he’s got mad photoshop skills!

Glennon Doyle Melton

You already know how much we love Glennon Doyle Melton, so her recent declaration on feminist mothering really made us smile, not only for her kids, but future generations as well.

Need a little positive inspiration this week, and beyond?  Watch Sonia’s awakening short film, then take on her challenge and start (or restart!) your own journaling ritual.  Journaling is a great spiritual exercise to keep us grounded and focused on gratitude even (and especially!) in times of trial.

Oprah Magazine

Finally, the last thing that is making us feel super happy and super grateful (and will be going down in our collective work journal!) is O Magazine's release of SALT's "Letter to Fear" by Elizabeth Gilbert - this marks our fifth short film collaborations with the amazing team over at O Magazine!

Okay, that's all from us this week!  Make sure your weekend, your upcoming week, your life, your  story, and your vote is filled with lots of roses amidst the inevitable thorns!

Peace,

The SALT Team
