A Visual Poem for MLK Day
Here’s a visual poem for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, pulling together evocative moments of archival footage from the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
It’s especially poignant to watch these faces and gestures from nearly 60 years ago here in 2022, just a few days after the first anniversary of the horrific events of January 6, 2021 — and in the wake of the riots that have just happened in Brazil.
No doubt Dr. King would want us to remember and celebrate all the people who made the march possible —inspiring us more than half a century later to keep working, marching, and fighting for jobs, freedom, equal rights, liberation, inclusivity, and a world in which Black lives truly matter.
Enjoy this “poem in motion,” use it as inspiration for prayer and recommitment, and share it far and wide (some further information about sharing it or using it in worship is below).
Let freedom ring!
Peace,
The SALT Team
