cowgirl boots
I’m on an early morning run. I see them in the grocery store parking lot, mother and daughter. The little girl looks to be about three or four, in a green skirt and cowgirl boots. Her mother, more practical, is in a tailored skirt and top.
As I pass by I hear the mother say, “Hurry! We have to hurry! We don't have much time!”
The little girl stops, “Why don't we have much time, Mommy?”
Her mother explains, “Because you have school and I have work and then a million other things to do tonight...”
Firmly planted in her cowgirl tracks, the little girl says, “I want much time, Mommy. I want much time right now!”
The mother opens her mouth as if to respond, then stops. What can she say in the face of such wisdom?
God in your cowgirl boots, you surprise us on our early morning dash. Stop us, slow us down, open us up to the moment, and help us make much time. Amen.
