plastic

Loving God, you breathed spring-smelling breath into our lungs and gave us the gift of life.  You placed us in this good garden with its marshes and oceans, trees and strawberries, giraffes and ladybugs, and you told us to take care of it, to serve it and guard it, and enjoy it all we can.

Merciful God, what have we done?  We have hurt your garden because we are unable to imagine it without ziplock bags, water bottles, and tupperware.  And what's more:  all of the disposable plastic we can't live without is now floating on the sea, millions of square miles of plastic soup.

God, forgive us, have mercy on us, and turn us around.  Help us be more creative when we pack lunches, go grocery shopping, and store our leftover food.  Help us to use less, love more, and take better care of this sweet, soft earth that you've given us as our home.

We pray this in the name of the One who taught us to consider both the lillies and the oceans. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
